fuck.uk.com is a reference site about one word. It is not, and will never be, a pornography site, a shock site or a shop.

Why it exists

Type the word into a search engine and the results have for years been dominated by adult sites and domain speculators, with the actual history of the word buried under them. That seemed wrong for a word this old, this common and this interesting. The aim here is simple: to be the page a curious person finds first, and to answer every reasonable question they might have, with sources.

What it covers

Etymology and history; grammar and usage; the word's compounds and its equivalents in other languages; its place in film, music, books, comedy, politics, the press and online; the science of why people swear; the law in Britain and elsewhere; and an honest argument for using the word less. Standards

Claims are sourced on the Sources page. Where the evidence is disputed the text says so. Where a popular story is false (the acronym, the Agincourt archers, the Anglo-Saxon origin) the text says that too. The site avoids slurs and lists none, even where they are formed on the word. Corrections are welcome through the corrections form and are acted on.

Who it is for

Adults, older teenagers, students of English, teachers who have been asked the question in class, journalists, lawyers, comedians, and anyone who has ever wondered why the word feels the way it does. It is not written for children, though there is nothing on it a child would be harmed by except the vocabulary, which they already know.

Technical
